Back when the Toyota and Subaru lovechild debuted in 2012, it was dubbed a “pure” sports car. Fast forward to today, and the second generation Toyota 86 and BRZ still claim that title; however in a much more improved platform. Toyota renamed the 86 by dropping the GT and adding the Gazoo Racing GR, which is more in line with their marketing. Badges and renaming aside, the ZN8 86 is an outstanding drivers’ car. With panels made of aluminum and increased power, throwing this thing around on the canyons is confidence inspiring.
Because power output isn’t the main goal of the ZN8 86, one of the best ways to improve performance is upgrading suspension and wheel and tire setup. In this case, because we’re kind of wheel guru’s, we threw on a wide set of Flow Forged wheels. This GR86 is running our lightweight Curva Concepts CFF70 in gloss black. Although s staggered fitment is popular on RWD platforms, we opted for a square set as it enables greater dynamic balance of the vehicle. That said, we mounted 18×9.5 +40 all around and wrapped them in high-performance Lexani LXUHP-207 tires.
