Toyota GR86
Let’s face it; not everyone can just walk into a Porsche dealership and drive off with a brand new 911. However, you don’t need to be made of money to drive an exciting sports car that was born and bred on a racetrack. Are we insane for even thinking of comparing a 911 to a GR86? Not as much as you might think. Okay fine, these two cars aren’t remotely comparable, but once you start dissecting the very thing that makes them tick; the comparison starts to make a little bit more sense.
Toyota’s Gazoo Racing division has deep motorsports roots and that has since translated into the readily-available GR sub-brand that anyone can walk in and buy. It’s not just fancy badging either. The R&D that goes into these cars is real, and you’ll become a believer the second you get behind the wheel and start driving.

So what makes the GR86 a real sports car? Surface level, it’s a RWD coupe that’s available with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox. Once you start digging a bit deeper, you’ll notice Toyota upgraded the engine from the prior generation to a solid 228-hp flat-four with plenty of mid-range power. This is in addition to the finely-tuned suspension. Remember, it’s not always about raw power in cars like this.
Why are we still talking about the tech specs of this car, though? Because it transitions now into the world of modifications, where these cars really shine. That’s right. Wheel upgrades are just one of the many mods to make to get the most out of the GR86.
This Neptune 86 is running our Flow Forged Curva Concepts CFF70 in a Gloss Black finish. As for wheel fitment, we opted for an aggressive 18×8.5 ET35 on all four corners. Yes, you can run a staggered setup. However, we found that a square fitment just performs better during spirited driving sessions. Tires play an important role in all of this too. We went with the high-performance Lionhart LH-503 in 245/40R18 to give our lightweight wheels some much-needed grip around the bends.
